April Update – Chauvet Rogue R2 Series

Tuesday, April 7th, 2015

Greetings from The AV Company!

Great lighting is integral to the work we do and to the events that we produce. One group of lighting fixtures that we frequently use is the Chauvet Rogue R2 series! Featuring the R2 Wash and the R2 Spot, this series that debuted in early 2014 delivers upscale performance and advanced features that were previously unheard of at its price point!

The Rogue R2 Wash features nineteen 15-watt quad-color LED’s, five zones of LED control, a unique lens design that allows for smooth color blending, and six distinct dimming modes. It also brags an industry-leading zoom range of 12°-49°, giving it the spread to cover very large areas.

The Parnelli award-nominated Rogue R2 Spot also features high value and a range of colors and effects, along with its 240-watt LED lamp. It employs gobo-morphing technology and two variable scrolling color wheels to allow for an unlimited number of shape-changing and split-color effects. It also has a 3-facet rotating prism, motorized focus, iris control, and a frost filter.

Transformation Tuesday – McArthur Squash Center

Tuesday, March 17th, 2015

Greetings from The AV Company!

Welcome to our tenth installment in our Transformation Tuesday series! This month, we’ll be taking a look at the McArthur Squash Center at the Boar’s Head Sports Complex! This state-of-the-art facility serves as the home base for the University of Virginia men’s and women’s squash teams. The center features eight singles courts, two doubles courts, and one glass-walled feature court with stadium seating for almost 400 spectators. We were asked to provide an integrated audiovisual system to allow the space to be more adaptable and easier to use.

We were able to transform the user experience of the facility using a variety of new tools! We implemented an iPad-controlled score-keeping system for referees. We installed monitors at each court, all controlled by local iPads that allow one to set up a timer for an exercise, pull up a YouTube video for reference, receive updates on upcoming events, et cetera! We also installed cameras in five of the courts and used the Crestron Capture HD Recorder to allow live streaming both online and to monitors around the facility.

Transformation Tuesday – Celebration of Champions

Tuesday, February 17th, 2015

Greetings from The AV Company!

Welcome to our ninth installment in our Transformation Tuesday series! This month, we’ll be looking at an event that we worked on with the Virginia Athletics Foundation! The Celebration of Champions event in October was held to honor the foundation’s donors, and gave donors a chance to mingle with student-athletes who were current recipients of these scholarships. For this event, we were tasked with creating an interior treatment for a tent placed in the southern section of the Lawn at the University of Virginia.

Take a look at how we transformed this tent using projection, a spandex divider, colorful lighting, and some fun architectural panels from Atomic Design!

January Update – Live Streaming

Tuesday, January 6th, 2015

Happy New Year from The AV Company!

As we begin the new year, we are looking at ways to help our clients reach wider audiences. One such tool that we often make use of is live streaming. Live streaming is great for connecting audiences, be they participants who cannot make it to your conference or friends who cannot make it to your wedding. In addition, it enables you to easily archive your event footage so that it can be accessed at a later time or distributed for training purposes.

Live streaming also allows you a whole new system for structuring your event! For example: Need to get a message out to a large group, but cannot physically get everyone in one place at one time? The solution might be to rent a space, create a set (see below), and broadcast your presentation directly to your target audience! All the participants have to do is follow a link to our online live stream platform whenever it is convenient for them, and they’ll instantly be able to engage with your event!

December Update – Projection Mapping Panels

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2014

Greetings from The AV Company!

This month, we are taking a look at a fun recent project that allowed us to expand our range when it comes to projection mapping! We recently had the pleasure of working with TEDxCharlottesville again, and were tasked with creating a stage set that would be responsive to the speakers’ needs and reflective of the topics being discussed.

We created a backdrop using Wafers from Atomic Design – flat fabric panels with a slight warp to lend a sense of undulation and texture to the backdrop as a whole. Using animated content from motion graphics artist Jonah Tobias, we were able to provide a flexible, visually intriguing, responsive set for this year’s TEDxCharlottesville speakers!

Transformation Tuesday – John Paul Jones Arena

Tuesday, October 21st, 2014

Greetings from The AV Company!

Welcome to our fifth installment in our Transformation Tuesday series! This week we’ll be looking at an event that we recently completed at the John Paul Jones Arena. Since it opened in 2006, the venue has been home to the Virginia Cavaliers basketball teams, and has hosted countless concerts and other events. It has seating for over 14,000 people, and is the largest indoor arena in Virginia.

For this leadership conference, we wanted to use a large projection screen to accomplish all of the event’s visual needs! We needed it to fill the roles of a decorative backdrop, a presentation platform, and a visual aide for audience members throughout the arena.

Take a look at how we use projection to turn this versatile screen into decor, without sacrificing presentation content or clarity! Using multi-window capabilities, we are able to maintain precise control over the content shown, be it an overall pattern, layered images, or a picture-in-picture video stream.

September Update – Digital Annotation System

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2014

Greetings from The AV Company!

Things are picking up for us this month, and we are looking forward to a fantastic fall full of exciting projects! As things get busier, we are looking for ways to increase efficiency and make communication easier for our clients. One tool that we are excited to implement is our new digital annotation system! Using specialized wireless presentation tools from Crestron, Extron, and Mersive, we have devised a system that allows presenters to interact with their presentation material in real time – think of it as a digital whiteboard! This opens up lots of new opportunities for audience participation, annotation storage, and content sharing!

Our system utilizes Crestron AirMedia to share content, an Extron Annotator 300 that provides a wide range of annotation tools, and Mersive software that allows wireless connection between a wide range of devices. This system fosters collaboration and decision-making, and smooths out the process of presenting and discussing information.

August Update – Custom Fixtures and Decor

Tuesday, August 5th, 2014

Greetings from The AV Company!

In our office, we always try to keep new, fresh ideas flowing! We enjoy playing with new design concepts that we haven’t seen around yet. So we often find ourselves building custom fixtures and decor for our clients!

One recent example might be the pieces that we built for the NAMIC 2014 Management Conference at the Williamsburg Lodge this past June! One of our client’s requests was to have large rear projection screens surrounded by gold frames that reflected the history and style of the Williamsburg area. Well, as you can imagine, finding frames this size might be rather difficult. So we built some!

We also enjoy building custom lighting fixtures! These fixtures were built for Glass Haus Kitchen by our principal designer. He wanted something that would make an impact while enhancing the unique contemporary feel of the space. We think he succeeded!

Small Speakers. Big Sound.

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

Picture This: You’re at a wedding ceremony or conference for work where you can hear perfectly  AND there is no large speaker blocking your view of the bride or presenter. Doesn’t happen very often does it?  Well, our featured product this week makes it very possible.  Meet the Bose L1 which is available for rental from The AV Company.

Believe it or not, the small speaker you see below is a unique, all-in-one system that delivers clear, powerful sound throughout small and medium-sized venues for up to 500 people.  Because it’s made by Bose, the sound is even no matter where you are in the room and it eliminates the need for conventions monitors, mixers and PA systems in most cases.

Contact us today to reserve the Bose L1 for your wedding, event or conference!
