April Update – Chauvet Rogue R2 Series

Tuesday, April 7th, 2015

Greetings from The AV Company!

Great lighting is integral to the work we do and to the events that we produce. One group of lighting fixtures that we frequently use is the Chauvet Rogue R2 series! Featuring the R2 Wash and the R2 Spot, this series that debuted in early 2014 delivers upscale performance and advanced features that were previously unheard of at its price point!

The Rogue R2 Wash features nineteen 15-watt quad-color LED’s, five zones of LED control, a unique lens design that allows for smooth color blending, and six distinct dimming modes. It also brags an industry-leading zoom range of 12°-49°, giving it the spread to cover very large areas.

The Parnelli award-nominated Rogue R2 Spot also features high value and a range of colors and effects, along with its 240-watt LED lamp. It employs gobo-morphing technology and two variable scrolling color wheels to allow for an unlimited number of shape-changing and split-color effects. It also has a 3-facet rotating prism, motorized focus, iris control, and a frost filter.

Transformation Tuesday – Celebration of Champions

Tuesday, February 17th, 2015

Greetings from The AV Company!

Welcome to our ninth installment in our Transformation Tuesday series! This month, we’ll be looking at an event that we worked on with the Virginia Athletics Foundation! The Celebration of Champions event in October was held to honor the foundation’s donors, and gave donors a chance to mingle with student-athletes who were current recipients of these scholarships. For this event, we were tasked with creating an interior treatment for a tent placed in the southern section of the Lawn at the University of Virginia.

Take a look at how we transformed this tent using projection, a spandex divider, colorful lighting, and some fun architectural panels from Atomic Design!

Transformation Tuesday – Keswick Hall

Tuesday, January 20th, 2015

Greetings from The AV Company!

Welcome to our eighth installment in our Transformation Tuesday series! This month, we’d like to take a look at a specific venue that we work with frequently and that has been the setting of several beautiful weddings we’ve recently helped to produce. Keswick Hall is an impressive 48-room mansion set within a 600 acre property here in Charlottesville. This gorgeous estate, originally built in 1912, is a fantastic venue for events ranging from weddings, corporate gatherings, retreats, et cetera.

Take a look at how we’ve recently transformed some of Keswick’s event spaces using bistro lights, colorful interior uplighting, and fun custom gobos!

Transformation Tuesday – Virginia Film Festival Wrap Party

Tuesday, December 16th, 2014

Greetings from The AV Company!

Welcome to our seventh installment in our Transformation Tuesday series! This month, we thought we’d share with you our work for the Virginia Film Festival’s Late Night Wrap Party! The party was held at the Main Street Arena last month, and our goal with this event was to capture the fresh, energetic spirit that encompassed all of the events surrounding the festival.

Take a look at how we transformed the arena using our custom chandelier clusters, a fabric divider, and some fun lighting and projection content!

December Update – Projection Mapping Panels

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2014

Greetings from The AV Company!

This month, we are taking a look at a fun recent project that allowed us to expand our range when it comes to projection mapping! We recently had the pleasure of working with TEDxCharlottesville again, and were tasked with creating a stage set that would be responsive to the speakers’ needs and reflective of the topics being discussed.

We created a backdrop using Wafers from Atomic Design – flat fabric panels with a slight warp to lend a sense of undulation and texture to the backdrop as a whole. Using animated content from motion graphics artist Jonah Tobias, we were able to provide a flexible, visually intriguing, responsive set for this year’s TEDxCharlottesville speakers!

Transformation Tuesday – Opening Night Gala

Tuesday, November 18th, 2014

Greetings from The AV Company!

Welcome to our sixth installment in our Transformation Tuesday series! A couple of months ago, we showed you how we transformed the Jefferson Theater for a Virginia Film Festival event back in 2012. For this year’s Opening Night Gala, we took it up a notch using some new tools.

The goal for this event was to capture the essence of the setting for the festival’s opening film, Big Stone Gap. We decided to do so by mapping the interior of the Jefferson with projected video! We utilized autumnal imagery that depicted some of rural Virginia’s natural surroundings, as well as some geometric animation for a change of tone as the event went on. We also made sure to highlight the architectural features of the space that make this venue so unique.

Transformation Tuesday – John Paul Jones Arena

Tuesday, October 21st, 2014

Greetings from The AV Company!

Welcome to our fifth installment in our Transformation Tuesday series! This week we’ll be looking at an event that we recently completed at the John Paul Jones Arena. Since it opened in 2006, the venue has been home to the Virginia Cavaliers basketball teams, and has hosted countless concerts and other events. It has seating for over 14,000 people, and is the largest indoor arena in Virginia.

For this leadership conference, we wanted to use a large projection screen to accomplish all of the event’s visual needs! We needed it to fill the roles of a decorative backdrop, a presentation platform, and a visual aide for audience members throughout the arena.

Take a look at how we use projection to turn this versatile screen into decor, without sacrificing presentation content or clarity! Using multi-window capabilities, we are able to maintain precise control over the content shown, be it an overall pattern, layered images, or a picture-in-picture video stream.

October Update – Fabric and Projection

Tuesday, October 7th, 2014

Greetings from The AV Company!

We are in full swing this season with lots of fantastic events coming up! As we continue to challenge ourselves to provide innovative solutions for our clients, we find ourselves focusing on how to use our tools in new ways to produce interesting and exciting environments. One such tool that we often make use of is fabric. As a relatively simple element, fabric’s uses are often underestimated. But when combined with light or projection content, it can often lend transformative properties to an event space.

For the wedding reception below, we used sheer fabric panels overhead to bring in the scale of the space, and projected organic patterns of light onto them to enhance the overall aesthetic of the room. We also created a subtly whimsical effect by layering sheer drape and twinkle lights, resulting in a cohesively charming setting. (Photos by Allegra’s Studio)

For another event, we used draped panels of fabric as room dividers to define lounge spaces, but also as backdrops for video content to be projected upon. The sheer fabric provided a lively, playful alternative to standard opaque screens! (Photos by Will Kerner)

Transformation Tuesday – Jefferson Theater

Tuesday, September 16th, 2014

Greetings from The AV Company!

Welcome to our fourth installment in our Transformation Tuesday series! This week we’ll be looking at a space with loads of Charlottesville character, the Jefferson Theater. The theater was established in 1912 as a live performance theater that hosted silent movies, vaudeville acts, and a historic list of performers. Though frequently used for concerts today, this theater has the potential to be transformed into the perfect venue for many types of events!

Take a look at how we were able to transform the space for a gala a couple of years ago! With the help of some projected film stills and patterns and some fun, energetic lighting, the Jefferson becomes a fantastic setting for the Virginia Film Festival‘s opening night festivities!

Transformation Tuesday – TEDxCharlottesville 2013

Monday, August 18th, 2014

Greetings from The AV Company!

Welcome to our third installment in our Transformation Tuesday series! This week, as we are brainstorming for the upcoming TEDxCharlottesville event on November 14th, we are looking back at last year’s event at the Paramount Theater! Watch as the Paramount stage gets transformed into a vibrant set for our speakers! Using light, sound, and projection mapping, we aimed to enhance the energy of speakers and audience members alike. We thoroughly enjoyed watching this incredible event come to life, and are proud to be involved again this year!
